For a writer, the idea of having only twelve words of Christmas may seem like an impossible word count limit, doesn’t it? With minimal commentary, let’s ponder twelve important words for writers inspired by the one word–Christmas.
Compassionate
Hardy
Resourceful
Insightful
Savvy
Tenacious
Motivated
Agile
Sense-aware
What would your Christmas inspired twelve-word list of writerly character qualities look like? Feel free to add yours (or expand on the words above) in the comments.
These particular word choices relate not to the craft of writing but the heart of the writer. What would your list look like if the topic were tasks a writer can tackle during a Christmas break?
God gave the fallen world a GIFT,
for all, with all His HEART,
to carry what we could not LIFT,
and give a fresh new START.
He didn’t send a king to reign
but a child to SERVE,
who would as a grown man FAIN
take death so UNDESERVED,
and take it as His SACRIFICE
for people so BELOVED
that He would not leave them in the ice
but in death raised them ABOVE
even Heaven’s angel CHORUS
to honour He intended FOR US.
Beautifully expressed, Andrew.
Thanks, Cynthia. This post really made me think about what Christmas truly means to me.

So, I guess I broke the rules and used more than 12 words. One of my downfalls. I need to cut words! LOL
This is worth saving…and sharing.
My 12 words of Christmas: Joyful, Loving, Generous, Calm, Mindful, Wonder-full, Sensitive, Authentic, Receptive, Resilient, Aware, Grateful
Great words.
This is only nine words. What about creative, committed, and committed?
Goops! I meant to say creative, committed, and communicative.
Also great words.
About Christmas, I wanted to say: Come Holy Redeemer Incarnate. Sustain, Transform, Mend and Save. But then I realized Mary would have likely changed a few of those words: Come Holy Refugee Infant. Subvert, Topple, Mend and Save.
For writing (not quite writerly character qualities), how about: Create, Hook, Rewrite, Inspire, Surprise, Teach, Mesmerize, Affirm and Serve.
Excellent, Jason!
