Books & Such is throwing a Pitch Party…
and you’re invited!
The Books & Such Pitch Party
While most pitch events occur at writing conferences, we’re flipping the script.
First, we’re offering a 30-minute virtual workshop to teach you everything you need to know to create a compelling pitch and to write a captivating query that cause an agent to take note.
Then, after the workshop, you’ll have a chance to take your pitch for a “test drive” via a 15-minute virtual pitch session, including targeted feedback for you, with one of our knowledgeable agents.
What you’ll learn at the Pitch Party
- If your project is marketable
- If it’s a good fit for an agent’s list
- How to make your pitch and your query both powerhouse presentations
Now’s the time to get personalized feedback from a Books & Such agent!
What makes this Pitch Party special?
- We’ll set you up for success by training you to effectively pitch–before you even present your pitch.
- You’ll have a fifteen-minute virtual pitch appointment with an agent who has heard hundreds of pitches. (Most conferences offer 10-minute appointments.)
- After your pitch, the agent will give you insight into what caught her attention about the way you presented your idea.
- And she’ll provide you with takeaways to shore-up your pitch and strengthen your query.
Join us May 26
for “What Makes a Successful Pitch Workshop.”
During this 30-minute session (which will be recorded if you can’t attend in person), you’ll learn how to write an effective pitch and a professional query that capture an agent’s attention and make your project shine.
Fiction and nonfiction workshops will be held separately to teach you how to query specifically what you are writing. Certain general principles apply to both, but a writer should construct one type of pitch for fiction, while a nonfiction writer should communicate different information in their pitch. Children’s writers should attend the workshop for the category their project falls into, fiction or nonfiction.
Workshop Times
- Fiction – 9am PDT
- Nonfiction – 10am PDT
Your pitch appointment will occur later in the week, at a time that works for both you and the Books & Such agent, giving you the opportunity to apply what you’ve learned at the workshop.
Are you ready to see what agents really want and what they think about your project?
You can party with us one of three ways:
The Pitch-Only Party
Want to skip the workshop, but pitch and receive feedback for your project? We’ve got you covered. You can purchase a one-to-one, 15-minute pitch session with a Books & Such agent for $35.
We can’t wait to meet you and find out what you’ve been working on!
Registration closes May 18, midnight Pacific Time.
If you can’t make it to our Pitch Party, we have another option that might be more your style. Check out our Writing Intensive here.
Timing isn’t right for you? We’ll be adding to our list of events that will equip you to find success in your publishing venture. And we’ll be offering the Pitch Party on other dates.
The Agent Team
The agents who will be working with you have 160 years of publishing experience under their belts. Plus the majority of them are published authors themselves; they know what it’s like to be hopeful but nervous about finding a publishing home.
The team also has decades of experience selling thousands of projects to publishing houses. Knowing what publishers are looking for as well as what causes publishers to turn down projects are key elements to us successfully obtaining contracts for the authors we represent.
