Best of the Blog 2009: What's Your Organize-IQ?

December 31, 2009 //  by Wendy Lawton//  22 Comments

Blogger: Wendy Lawton

Location: Books & Such Central Valley Office, California

Are you an Organization Master, an Organization Meister, or Organization Challenged?

I promised a quiz to test your organizational acumen and here it is! Just click the image below and you’ll be taken directly to the quiz page.

Tomorrow our wonderful Books & Such Publicist, Kathleen Y’Barbo, will be offering some of her trademark marketing and publicity wisdom in our regular Wednesday Marketing Matters, but I’ll be back on Thursday to discuss your results.

So. . . even before you see your score, how do you predict you’ll do?

I’ve enjoyed your posts on organization. I took your test and discovered I’m an Organizational Master. Woohooo.

Meister, no surprise. Organized in an anal sort of way, but I’ll be in big trouble when I am multi-pubbed and have more to manage than I can with my current half-way planned “system.”

Dumb question of the day: What are color coded files? Digital, or hard copy?

    Thanks for all the tips!

Actually, Camille, both. The files in my computer are color-coded as well as my hanging files in my actual file cabinets. For me, color not helps function but it makes me happy.

And about being organized now but worrying about later– you’ll be fine. You’re so smart to get your system up and running now because the crazier things get, the less time you have for the infrastructure of your “business.”

Meister, also. Very organized with physical paper, but horribly not with computer files. I really appreciate yesterday’s explanation (in the comments section) of your computer file organization system, Wendy! Thank you. I have GOT to master this, because—as Camille points out above—I do someday hope to be multi-pubbed. Right now, if I didn’t live with my Tech Guy, I’d be in big trouble. But I need to be able to do this stuff myself, period. You have inspired me to try again and not give up!

I’m a Meister. Oh, dear, you thought all librarians are Organizational Masters. Sorry to disillusion you. 🙂

Thanks for the tips, Wendy! One of my goals for this year is to be better organized–both in my writing and around the house.

I can’t believe I’m in the same Meister category as Bill. I must be in the Judy-end of the scale. 🙂

I find I have to have a cleared spot near where I’m working–so I pick up the kitchen BEFORE I start cooking.

At work, I organize the papers before I start. Of course Janet only gives me six inches square of desk space, so organization is important! 🙂

Scored Meister though others seem to consider me the Go To person for organization. I know the ropes and can do it but tend to leave things till I have no choice left but to deal with them because they are no longer contained and not affecting getting other things done.

Melissa, I guess I should confess that I score Meister as well, even though I love systems and organizing. For me, the reason is that perfection gets in the way. I too often hold off on getting something fixed organizationally because I don’t have time to do it perfectly. I’m going to talk about this on Friday.

    I’m an Organization Master–yes!!!

Sure, I’ve got my random piles of paperwork, but I keep it under control. Nothing infuriates me more than to need a certain document and not be able to immediately put my hands on it.

Love the new blog, ladies! Congratulations!

    I am…an ORGANIZATION MEISTER!

“You look organized to everyone around you because you shine in several areas, but you secretly worry about the hidden glitches in your systems.”

Wow, I’m lookin’ at my desk right now and I think that’s a pretty generous (read: insane) rating, lol!
