Christmas Decorations in the Kent Home

December 22, 2010 //  by Rachel Kent//  6 Comments

Blogger: Rachel Kent

Location: home

My family has a Christmas tradition of going to a tree farm to chop down a Christmas tree; so Andrew and I did that this year for our first married Christmas together. I also went a second time with my family. 🙂

Here are some pictures from our tree-picking excursion:

It was a cold morning! The tree looked small at the tree farm but was quite large when we got it home. I’m pretty sure it grew.

We wrestled the tree inside and decorated…

We have very few ornaments, and the majority of them came from a garage sale! 🙂 I’m sure we’ll collect more through the years.

We also have a Christmas wreath on our door and a Willowtree nativity set that we received for our wedding.

Such a nice gift!

Merry Christmas to you from the Kents!

On our first Christmas together, we only had $20 to spend on decorating. We blew it all on a small artificial tree and had nothing left for ornaments or lights. I dug around in my craft supplies and found some little paper-mache pumpkins so we hung those silly things on our new tree. Now, every year, we still hang the pumpkins from the tree, but they’re surrounded by a gazillion other real ornaments (especially kid-made ones). Every once in awhile I spot one of those pumpkins and it makes me smile.

Merry Christmas Rachel, Andrew and Snippet! Enjoy your first holiday together.

We used to get teased by our families because we had so few ornaments on our tree. But we bought one per family member every year, allowing the kids to pick out theirs when they got old enough. Eleven Christmases and three children later, our tree is pretty packed. I look forward to filling it even more over the next decades… we may need a second tree at some point!

Rachel, you and Andrew enjoy your first married Christmas! It’s such a joy to start creating your own memories and traditions. 🙂

Thanks for sharing these pictures. The tree is so pretty, and your dog is adorable. My mini-dachshund Sophie would love Snippet!

    Have a very Merry Christmas!

The biggest debate for us during our first Christmas together was whether to have white or colored lights on the tree. My husband’s family always had colored; we always had white. I was a nice newlywed wife and let him ‘win.’ 20 years later we still have colored lights. Now there’s no chance of turning back since the kids also vote for colored. 🙂

Enjoy your first Christmas as Mr. and Mrs. Kent, and building those memories for your own family!
