Our clients’ Christmas releases are starting to arrive at the office. A couple of weeks ago, we received agency copies of Tricia Goyer, Sarah Sundin and Cara Putman’s Where Treetops Glisten and also An Amish Second Christmas with a story by Tricia Goyer. Yesterday, Liz Johnson’s Navy Seal Noel arrived along with the agency copies of A Cup of Christmas Cheer Volumes 3 and 4. Christmas books come out early in preparation for all of the Christmas shopping.
Do you enjoy reading books about Christmas or Christmas novellas?
What is your current favorite Christmas book?
I enjoy reading Christmas novellas and books, but I have too many favorites to list them all. I have enjoyed many of the Barbour Christmas collections, and I always read the Christmas novellas/novels my clients write. I also helped with the discussion questions on Robin Jones Gunn’s Finding Father Christmas and Engaging Father Christmas so those will always be special to me. And they are lovely books, too!
I have an extra copy of Navy Seal Noel and also an extra copy of Where Treetops Glisten that I’d like to pass along to two blog readers. I’ll randomly pick two of you who comment on the blog today to each receive one of the books. I’ll announce the winners on the blog on Monday, and I’ll email the two winners privately to get mailing addresses.
Have a wonderful weekend, and thank you for being faithful readers of the Books & Such blog!
It IS time to think about Christmas. Wow! These all sound like great reads. I hope to win a copy of Navy Seal Noel to pass on to my cousin whose son is serving in the military.
I do like Christmas books. There are several that I read with my young family every year. “The Nativity” a picture book from the movie full of wonderful Christmas verses. “The Shepherd, The Angel, and Walter the Christmas Miracle Dog” by Dave Barry and of course “The Best Christmas Pagent Ever”. I also enjoyed “Two from Galilee” It has to be so fun to start getting those Christmas client books in the mail Rachel. Something that tells you the season is approaching.
I enjoy watching The Nativity each year! I will have to check out the book. 🙂
I do enjoy Christmas stories. One of my favorites is Susan May Warren’s, Baby It’s Cold Outside. How fun to see how many Christmas releases are coming from Books and Such clients! I’ll be looking for some of these in the weeks to come. 🙂
Thanks for the chance to win, Rachel. I like Christmas stories, but I can’t think of one that’s grabbed me enough yet to call it a favorite. I’ll have to check out some of the titles mentioned in this thread. 🙂
I love Christmas books however my favorites are the children’s Christmas books. I guess I am still a kid at heart.
One favorite is “McDuff’s Christmas” by Rosemary Wells. McDuff is a Westie which is what my Blithe was. I recommend this book for your daughter. There is a whole series about McDuff.
Oh, I forgot about children’s Christmas stories!! I have a number of those I love–The Best Christmas Pageant Ever (I think that’s the title), Herschel’s Hannukah Goblins and The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey are among my all time favorites!
I love McDuff! 🙂
I love Christmas books, Rachel. My mom always gives them to me. I keep them under the tree through the season. Even though my kids are teens, we still love reading the ones for children, too.
Thank you for the chance to win.
Shelli, thanks for reminding me about children’s books. Every Dec.1 I haul out a big box of Christmas ones for everyone to dig into. My teens still like to read over old kid’s books too (as does their mumsie). ❀
You are welcome, Wendy. The sweet books seem to set your heart and mind on Jesus.
I alternate reading Cornelius Ryan’s “A Bridge Too Far” and William Barrett’s “The left Hand of God” every other Christmas.
For a Christmas movie…”Shrek the Halls” and “Christmas with the Kranks”.
Have a great weekend!
Oh, I didn’t know Shrek had a Christmas movie. I’ll have to check that one out. 🙂
I love Christmas stories! I usually start reading them in October because they get me in the spirit for Christmas baking which for fruitcake should be started 6-8 weeks ahead so the flavors meld together.
And now that I’m blessed to have my stories as part of last year’s and this year’s A CUP OF CHRISTMAS CHEER collections, I seem to be celebrating Christmas year ’round. 🙂
Rachel, I love the covers on the books you’ve pictured. They’re cozy and intriguing.
The novel that first comes to my mind when I think of Christmas is Little Women. They were so poor and yet so generous.
Blessings on everyone’s weekend ~ Wendy ❀
I can’t wait for Katie (my daughter) to be old enough to read Little Women with me. Those girls were so good and loving. I want my children to have that same kind of spirit.
Well, I take it back. She’s growing up so fast I think I CAN wait for her to get old enough. But it will be fun to read that with her some day.
It’s fun to watch the movie together after you’ve both read the book.
Daughters grow quickly. Kara (14) is already taller than I am (and she delights in reminding me of it). Don’t blink. ❀
My favorite Christmas book is Two From Gallilee. I read it every year!
Christmas is such a special time in the world. I know that some cynics would say that Christmas has been too commercialized and the Truth forgotten…there is still something special about the whole world being able to set aside their differences, even for just one day, and try to come together in peace. It makes me wonder if maybe, even though many have forgotten about the birth of Christ, that His presence is reminding us in the carolers on your doorstep, or the call from your estranged mother, or the soldiers who refused to fight on Christmas Day. These are the stories I remember…After all, isn’t He the Prince of Peace?
Am I the only one who thinks a Christmas story makes for a great summer read? Yes, I dust off the usual during the Christmas season–O Henry and Charles Dickens balance the December rush. But a snowy tale of Christmas is a welcome respite from July temperatures, if only in my dreams!
Oooh, oooh, pick me! I’d LOVE a good holiday read!
I’m quite excited about this year’s Christmas books, especially A Cup of Christmas Cheer Volumes Three and Four from Guideposts. I’m honored to be one of the contributors, keeping company with talented authors like Liz Johnson and Anita Mae Draper. Pinch me!
I think I missed something. What is the drawing for? Is it part of the retreat or for all readers of the blog? Is it exclusively Christmas fiction?
I have an extra copy of Liz Johnson’s new book and one of the Sarah Sundin, Tricia Goyer, and Cara Putman collection to give away.
Anyone who comments is going to be entered in the drawing!
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!!!!
I love Christmas books/stories! I don’t know that I have a favorite- too hard to choose.
I don’t read a lot of Christmas books, but after reading some books by Amanda Cabot and enjoying them, I picked up her Chrsitmas novella ‘Christmas Roses’ and really enjoyed it!
Thanks for giving this away, Rachel! Appreciate all your work finding Where Treetops Glisten a home.
Congratulations, Cara, on your beautiful new book. ❀
🙂 My pleasure! It was delightful to work with you, Tricia, Sarah, Janet and Karen.
I love Christmas – themed novels, so I’d love to read these new books.
Brittany
I love to read Christmas novellas. It is my favorite time of the year and the short stories help set the mood without requiring a lot of time to read. I do not have a particular favorite as there are simply too many from which to choose.
Christmas as a child meant my mother reading The Gift of the Magi to my cousins, siblings and me. There were other stories through the years, but that one resonates most with me.
I really like that one. Perfect book for reading to kids, too.
With the weather getting colder, it does put Christmas in mind(o: I’d love to win the novella!!
I do like to read Christmas books! My favorite Christmas book would have to be one of the first ones I read Deck the Halls by Mary Higgins Clark.
I do enjoy Christmas stories, these sound like books I would pick 🙂
Davis Bunn’s Tidings of Comfort and Joy is a short but good book.
I love anything to do with Christmas, books included, of course. I’ve already started my Christmas shopping.
A bit off topic, I wonder why I always get your posts so late. This one came in at 11:17 Pacific Time but already has lots of comments.
I enjoy reading Christmas books. I need to get started now that it is October! I do most of my Christmas reading in October and November because December is just so busy! I enjoyed Amanda Cabot’s Christmas Roses and the Barbour Christmas collections. I usually always read Debbie Macomber’s Christmas books. 🙂
Do give books – religious or otherwise – for Christmas.
They’re never fattening, seldom sinful, and permanently personal.”
~ Lenore Hershey
Great quote!
I love them and always enjoy Debbie Macomber’s holiday stories.
I love Christmas books, and fall is the perfect time to start reading them, when the temperatures drop! Thanks for the giveaway, and something to look forward to.
I LOVE the Christmas season! The time of year when His Amazing Love is the focus of the world. Thank you Rachel for this wonderful giveaway.
Oh how I love Christmas! And one of my favorite books is “A Cup of Christmas Tea.”
The first year I discovered it, I sent a copy to my twin sister for her Christmas present that year. She had mailed me a little square box, and surprise! when I opened it, she had given me the little tea cup/saucer tree ornament, from the book. We laughed at how that year we’d both fallen in love with “A Cup of Christmas Tea,” tea lovers each one of us.
Thank you Rachel, for bringing this memory back to me and for your list of Christmas books for this year, as well as giving two away. Sounds like you have the Spirit of Christmas all year round!
I do love Christmas! I am always singing Christmas songs to my daughter before bed. Silent Night is perfect all year long.
Love Christmas books! Would love to win – thanks for giving us the opportunity. There are so many Christmas stories that I have read but none specifically come to mind as a favorite – except of course the Greatest Story ever told, our Savior’s birth – the reason for the season! Thanks again!
Love Christmas books! Would love to win – thanks for giving us the opportunity. There are so many Christmas stories that I have read but none specifically come to mind as a favorite – except of course the Greatest Story ever told, our Savior’s birth – the reason for the season! Thanks again!
I love reading Christmas stories – especially at this time of year. The temperatures are beginning to drop and I can’t wait to unpack my sweaters, scarves, and boots.
🙂
Happy Fall – Happy Reading!
I would love to read Where Treetops Glisten!
I’d love to win! Thanks so much!!
I love, love, love seasonal fiction. Of course, I am a Christmas fanatic, so it surprised no one when my first two books were set during Christmas.
The Christmas Chronicles by Tim Slover and An Amish Country Christmas by Charlotte Hubbard and Naomi King are two favorites that come to mind, but there are many others.
Hope you have a great weekend.
I read Christmas books all year long. But with the temperature at 41 degrees this morning, I’m ready to read this book!
I haven’t got a favourite Christmas book, but I always get a book (or, umm, several) for Christmas. And since I put on a bit of a spread for Christmas dinner, I always take Boxing Day off, and refuse to speak English, and lock my door.
And read ALL day.
ALL DAY!!!!
WOOOO! Hello leftovers, buh bye Jennifer!
I cannot wait to read Navy Seal Noel as my son is in the Navy! I also cannot wait to read Where Treetops Glisten. I have not been in a Christmasy spirit for many years now and for the first time in about 15 years, I “feel” Christmas. I loved the part about Jesus Birth, always did and enjoyed that part, it was just the rest of it, because I was grieving so many things. But because of a new and reaffirmed faith in God, I am so ready to really CELEBRATE the birth of Jesus and enjoy the season not just go through the motions.
Whether I win a copy of either book or have to buy them, I am very excited about reading these books!
I will unashamedly comment for a chance to win a Christmas book. I love The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. Also, The Cat Who Came for Christmas by Cleveland Amory and Skipping Christmas by John Grisham.
My very first story book ,The night before Christmas,is still one I love to share with my grand children. I enjoy any and all books about Christmas. My son & daughter both loved The animals Christmas eve,a beautiful rhyming story from the animals at the Manger.I would love to win your book.God Bless.
One of my favorite Children’s Christmas books is Who’s that Coming to Our House? About all of the animals at the sable preparing for the arrival of Mary and Joseph (and Jesus). It sounds very similar to The Animals’ Christmas Eve.
I love Christmas themed books. 😉
A Charlie Brown Christmas. Hands down. You can’t beat a story that boldly quotes Luke 2 and the Christ story! 🙂
My favorite Christmas books have been the Christmas series by Donna VanLiere, starting with “The Christmas Shoes”.
Although Joan Medlicott’s “A Blue and Grey Christmas” comes in a close second favorite.
I really loved Tricia Goyer’s WWII Liberation Series and I’ve been wanting to read When Treetops Glisten ever since I first saw the banner in the WWII Writers and Readers FB Page…. and to read a couple authors who are new to me too! (Sara Sundin and Cara Putnam)
Megan, you won the copy of WHERE TREETOPS GLISTEN! I can’t find your email address, so could you please email me with your address? Rachel@ booksandsuch.com.
Thank you!
I’m late commenting today, and it’s now after business hours in the midwest. But you’re still hard at work on the west coast, right? 🙂 I admired Where Treetops Glisten at the conference but didn’t buy it, thinking I’d tell my children when they ask what I want for Christmas. There are so many amazing Christmas books, but we particularly enjoy reading An Angel’s Story by Max Lucado aloud as a family in the days leading up to Christmas. It has become a cherished tradition.
I love Christmas stories. My favorite is Unexpected Christmas Hero by Kathie Mathias
Hi Rachel,
My favorite go-to Christmas books are classics: The Best Christmas Pagent Ever and A Christmas Carol. Every year I like to pick up a contemporary Christmas book because it is part of my holiday happiness. 🙂
Our former pastor used to have us sings carols every 25th of the month. He said they were too good to sing just once a year.
I’ve been waiting for Where Treetops Glisten…I love Christmas novels and would love this book!!
I love Christmas books or songs at any time of the year! My hubby and I have been known to put in a Christmas CD in July! We both love the holidays and the special message it gives us! I can read a Christmas book anytime of the year! I would love to get these books you are giving away. They are favorite authors of mine!
I love Christmas! So I will read Christmas novels year round. I start working on gifts beginning in January each year.
In my haste I missed the reason for the comments my favorite Christmas book is The Three Trees and I know it’s an Easter but I always read at Christmas because of the gifts that God gave us in Jesus Christ
I really enjoy reading Christmas books, even when it is not Christmas. In fact, last summer my library’s adult summer reading program was Christmas in July. I look forward to reading When Treetops Glisten. I haven’t heard of the others but will be looking for them!
Christmas is my favorite time of year, you get to listen to CD’s of your favorite Christmas music and watch Christmas movies. And of course you have the books, that you get so drawn into, I love these Christmas books that draws you in for 200 plus pages for a few days.
I like Christmas books and look forward to reading “Where Treetops Glisten!
Last December I read only Christmas books. It was a fun to celebrate the season. I’m looking forward to doing the same thing this year. Hopefully I can add Where Treetops Glisten to my reading list.
Love the Red Gloves by Karen Kingsbury. BUt looking forward to Tree Tops Glisten
Super excited about holiday reading!
I don’t have a favorite Christmas novel-I think each one is special in its own way! Kind of like children, LOL. I want to read Tricia Goyer’s work in Where Treetops Glisten!
i hope I win because I can’t wait to read this book! Yay! Thanks for the opportunity!
I delight in collecting Christmas books. Skimming through the comments has inspired me to start reading them early this year. I was an elementary school librarian for years, so I also collect children’s Christmas books. A couple of my many favorites are The Year of the Perfect Christmas Tree by Gloria Houston and The Christmas Pageant by Jacqueline Rogers. I read The Best Christmas Pageant Ever to the students in my public school, and the next year they performed it–very special!
I’d be thrilled to receive any of the books, but I’ve been friends with Tricia Goyer since her first writers’ conference in the 1990s; I also know Sarah and am FB friends with Cara. They’re all impressive! 🙂
PS Rachel, once your daughter is older, do check out the Betsy-Tacy series by Maud Hart Lovelace. Great for moms and daughters to read together. The first four are fine for primary ages; the ten books take Betsy from kindergarten to her wedding.
I love Christmas books.I can’t pick just one that is a favorite.I love them all. Thanks for the chance to win.
I love Christmas books!!
I really don’t have a favorite Christmas book, but I would like to read both of these books. I have read only a few Christmas books.
I enjoy reading both Christmas books and novellas. My favorite Christmas book is “A Light in the Window” by Julie Lessman.
I love Christmas book’s and read them year round!
I start stocking up on Winter reads in the Summer. I can’t wait to buy and read these!
I read Christmas books all year long because they remind me that the Spirit of Christmas is something we should be overflowing with all 365 days of the year!
To be honest, I do not remember one Christmas-themed book that I have written. But Christmas themed books with a military flavor should be awesome, especially by these fine authors. The one that intrigues me most is “Navy Seal Noel,” and I would love to read it.
Christmas is my favorite time of year!
At 17, I’m simply fascinated with the WWII era. I would love to read “Where Treetops Glisten”; I’ve read books by Sarah Sundin, and she’s absolutely my favorite author. 🙂
Christmas is just too good to celebrate only in December!
I thought I had commented already, but I don’t see it here. Anyway, I have always loved Christmas – themed fiction. I especially can’t wait to read Where Treetops Glisten.
Oops…I finally found my earlier comment. Disregard this one:)
The winners are:
LAURA HIX will receive a copy of Liz Johnson’s NAVY SEAL NOEL!
and

Thanks so much to everyone who commented and congrats to Megan and Laura!
Yeah!!! I won! I cannot wait to read Navy Seal Noel; and congrats to Megan for winning Where Treetops Glisten
I love Christmas books. I can’t wait to read many of the new ones that come out this year!
It does not have to be the Christmas season for me to read a Christmas novel !! I read them all year round as that is one of my favorite genres! These three sound awesome and I want to read all of them —plus all the others I have read about! That should be about a years worth! So many good ones this year. Congrats to the winners, sorry I was not one of them!!
My new favorite Christmas novel this year is the one I wrote and published in July call The Gift Counselor. For details, check out: gift counselor video. I am working on the sequel, Best of All Gifts, for next Christmas. Happy reading!
Correction: …”I wrote and published in July called … ”
I zigged when I should have zagged!
