Christmas Books are Here (With a chance to get a free book!)

October 3, 2014 //  by Rachel Kent//  100 Comments

Blogger: Rachel Kent

Our clients’ Christmas releases are starting to arrive at the office. A couple of weeks ago, we received agency copies of Tricia Goyer, Sarah Sundin and Cara Putman’s Where Treetops Glisten and also An Amish Second Christmas with a story by Tricia Goyer. Yesterday, Liz Johnson’s Navy Seal Noel arrived along with the agency copies of A Cup of Christmas Cheer Volumes 3 and 4. Christmas books come out early in preparation for all of the Christmas shopping.

Do you enjoy reading books about Christmas or Christmas novellas?

What is your current favorite Christmas book?

I enjoy reading Christmas novellas and books, but I have too many favorites to list them all. I have enjoyed many of the Barbour Christmas collections, and I always read the Christmas novellas/novels my clients write. I also helped with the discussion questions on Robin Jones Gunn’s Finding Father Christmas and Engaging Father Christmas so those will always be special to me. And they are lovely books, too!

I have an extra copy of Navy Seal Noel and also an extra copy of Where Treetops Glisten that I’d like to pass along to two blog readers. I’ll randomly pick two of you who comment on the blog today to each receive one of the books. I’ll announce the winners on the blog on Monday, and I’ll email the two winners privately to get mailing addresses.

Have a wonderful weekend, and thank you for being faithful readers of the Books & Such blog!

It IS time to think about Christmas. Wow! These all sound like great reads. I hope to win a copy of Navy Seal Noel to pass on to my cousin whose son is serving in the military.

I do like Christmas books. There are several that I read with my young family every year. “The Nativity” a picture book from the movie full of wonderful Christmas verses. “The Shepherd, The Angel, and Walter the Christmas Miracle Dog” by Dave Barry and of course “The Best Christmas Pagent Ever”. I also enjoyed “Two from Galilee” It has to be so fun to start getting those Christmas client books in the mail Rachel. Something that tells you the season is approaching.

I love Christmas books however my favorites are the children’s Christmas books. I guess I am still a kid at heart.

One favorite is “McDuff’s Christmas” by Rosemary Wells. McDuff is a Westie which is what my Blithe was. I recommend this book for your daughter. There is a whole series about McDuff.

I love Christmas stories! I usually start reading them in October because they get me in the spirit for Christmas baking which for fruitcake should be started 6-8 weeks ahead so the flavors meld together.

And now that I’m blessed to have my stories as part of last year’s and this year’s A CUP OF CHRISTMAS CHEER collections, I seem to be celebrating Christmas year ’round. 🙂

Christmas is such a special time in the world. I know that some cynics would say that Christmas has been too commercialized and the Truth forgotten…there is still something special about the whole world being able to set aside their differences, even for just one day, and try to come together in peace. It makes me wonder if maybe, even though many have forgotten about the birth of Christ, that His presence is reminding us in the carolers on your doorstep, or the call from your estranged mother, or the soldiers who refused to fight on Christmas Day. These are the stories I remember…After all, isn’t He the Prince of Peace?

Am I the only one who thinks a Christmas story makes for a great summer read? Yes, I dust off the usual during the Christmas season–O Henry and Charles Dickens balance the December rush. But a snowy tale of Christmas is a welcome respite from July temperatures, if only in my dreams!

Oh how I love Christmas! And one of my favorite books is “A Cup of Christmas Tea.”

The first year I discovered it, I sent a copy to my twin sister for her Christmas present that year. She had mailed me a little square box, and surprise! when I opened it, she had given me the little tea cup/saucer tree ornament, from the book. We laughed at how that year we’d both fallen in love with “A Cup of Christmas Tea,” tea lovers each one of us.

Thank you Rachel, for bringing this memory back to me and for your list of Christmas books for this year, as well as giving two away. Sounds like you have the Spirit of Christmas all year round!

I cannot wait to read Navy Seal Noel as my son is in the Navy! I also cannot wait to read Where Treetops Glisten. I have not been in a Christmasy spirit for many years now and for the first time in about 15 years, I “feel” Christmas. I loved the part about Jesus Birth, always did and enjoyed that part, it was just the rest of it, because I was grieving so many things. But because of a new and reaffirmed faith in God, I am so ready to really CELEBRATE the birth of Jesus and enjoy the season not just go through the motions.
Whether I win a copy of either book or have to buy them, I am very excited about reading these books!

I delight in collecting Christmas books. Skimming through the comments has inspired me to start reading them early this year. I was an elementary school librarian for years, so I also collect children’s Christmas books. A couple of my many favorites are The Year of the Perfect Christmas Tree by Gloria Houston and The Christmas Pageant by Jacqueline Rogers. I read The Best Christmas Pageant Ever to the students in my public school, and the next year they performed it–very special!
I’d be thrilled to receive any of the books, but I’ve been friends with Tricia Goyer since her first writers’ conference in the 1990s; I also know Sarah and am FB friends with Cara. They’re all impressive! 🙂
PS Rachel, once your daughter is older, do check out the Betsy-Tacy series by Maud Hart Lovelace. Great for moms and daughters to read together. The first four are fine for primary ages; the ten books take Betsy from kindergarten to her wedding.

I really don’t have a favorite Christmas book, but I would like to read both of these books. I have read only a few Christmas books.

I enjoy reading both Christmas books and novellas. My favorite Christmas book is “A Light in the Window” by Julie Lessman.

I read Christmas books all year long because they remind me that the Spirit of Christmas is something we should be overflowing with all 365 days of the year!

To be honest, I do not remember one Christmas-themed book that I have written. But Christmas themed books with a military flavor should be awesome, especially by these fine authors. The one that intrigues me most is “Navy Seal Noel,” and I would love to read it.

At 17, I’m simply fascinated with the WWII era. I would love to read “Where Treetops Glisten”; I’ve read books by Sarah Sundin, and she’s absolutely my favorite author. 🙂

I thought I had commented already, but I don’t see it here. Anyway, I have always loved Christmas – themed fiction. I especially can’t wait to read Where Treetops Glisten.

It does not have to be the Christmas season for me to read a Christmas novel !! I read them all year round as that is one of my favorite genres! These three sound awesome and I want to read all of them —plus all the others I have read about! That should be about a years worth! So many good ones this year. Congrats to the winners, sorry I was not one of them!!
