This year, I decided to set a large dollar number for my annual project sales goal. I am not sure I’ll be able to hit this goal, but I wanted to set a goal to push myself to greater heights. I do get nervous seeing such a large number, but as we push through the year, the sales I make will chip away at it and I HOPE by December 2026, I will have reached or surpassed the goal. God has a plan for each of my clients and their book projects and I will do my best to get those projects into the hands of the editors who can make the books a reality.
How do you set goals each new year? Are you tempted to set a low goal so you can reach it for sure? Or do you set seemingly-impossible goals for yourself? I know many of you have different kinds of goals–writing goals, reading goals, goals for fitness, etc. Do you use different methods for each category of goal? I confess, I’m better at fulfilling work-type goals over fitness goals. I do have some plans for making sure I have a healthy lifestyle in 2026, too.
The new year is always a time for looking forward with hope. I can’t say that I love setting these goals, but I do think that they are a useful tool as I dive back in to “work mode.” I have found that I am motivated to get projects ready to go and sent in an effort to reach my goals for the year.
I am excited to dive in to 2026, and I hope you are looking forward to a year of productivity and fun!

Over the last two months I’ve done four video teachings on goal-setting and execution. Tomorrow I’ll do another called 33 Ways to Boost Your Writing Productivity. I have a bunch of other teachings on writing form on that playlist.
