Christmas Novel or Novella: Rachel’s Favorite

Unlike Wendy, I really haven’t read many Christmas books. I’m not sure why. I love Christmas! Because I haven’t read many, it was easy to pick my favorite, the novella Engaging Father Christmas by Robin Jones Gunn. This story is the followup book to Finding Father Christmas, which Janet wrote about Monday.

efcEngaging Father Christmas is my favorite between the two because it has the romance. 🙂 In this story, Miranda returns to England a year after finding her family. During that year she has been seeing handsome Ian MacGregor. Ian’s parents are close friends of  Miranda’s newly discovered family in the fictional town of Carlton Heath. Miranda and Ian’s relationship is tested throughout the story as Ian’s father suffers a heart attack, as Miranda’s ex-boyfriend follows her to Carlton Heath, and as Miranda faces hostility from members of her family. I don’t want to give too much away so I’ll just say that the book ends happily, and it’s such a satisfying read!

Another reason I’m fond of this book is that I wrote the discussion questions that are printed in the back. Through a strange series of events it fell on me to quickly write the questions, and I did! This readers’ guide is my first published work, so if you do pick up the book, please be sure to enjoy the questions in the back as well. 😉

It looks like, from the suggestions this week, I’ll be adding works by Robin Jones Gunn to my “to be read” list.

I love looking at reader discussion questions! Congrats on your published work!

My first published work was a small article on an online magazine based out of Texas. I’m thankful for that start, and have been slowly adding articles onto that published list!

My first published work was a short story in an anthology called “Heart-Stirring Stories of Romance.” We went out to eat to celebrate the contract, then we went out to eat to celebrate when the book came out. So, you might say I ate my profits! It was such a thrill, it didn’t matter.

    Blessings,
    Voni
